I am guilty, have no defense, and just want to get this over with. Should I even bother getting an attorney?

Absolutely. An attorney is valuable in a lot of ways. Just because you’re guilty, doesn’t mean that the prosecutor’s office has enough evidence to convict you. Just because you’re guilty, doesn’t mean you don’t have the same rights as everybody else. Just because you’re guilty, doesn’t mean you should throw yourself on the mercy of the court and hope for the best.

A good attorney will take the time to speak with you, speak to the prosecutor’s office, and have an understanding of how the courtroom itself works so you know what to expect when you walk into court even if there is no defense, even if your attorney can’t pull off a miracle and make things go away through technicalities. It’s important to hire an attorney to make sure that whatever the punishment that you receive at the end of your case is, isn’t something that’s going to destroy your life or be more than it’s warranted
or be patently unfair.
