Can alimony be modified or terminated in Florida?
That really depends on what type of alimony we’re talking about. There is permanent, periodic, bridge-the-gap alimony, and then there’s something called lump sum alimony, which just basically means you get paid all upfront. Some alimony is modifiable, some is not. Now, other alimony can be adjusted or terminated depending upon the relationship that somebody is in, whether or not they still need the support.
If the alimony is permanent, it’s permanent, and that’s where things really lie. Whenever you’re signing an agreement or you’re getting an order from a judge regarding the establishment of alimony, it’s very important that the attorney look at that and make sure that that issue was addressed at the time that the order is put into place.
