How is child support calculated in Florida?
In Florida, child support is calculated based upon financial affidavits. The number of overnights that each parent has with the child, daycare expenses and needs, health insurance expenses and needs, and healthcare expenses and needs. All that gets put into the formula. Once the formula gets calculated out, you’ll know what your child support numbers are. Now, your income is the primary driving factor, not your expenses.
There are certain expenses that can be deducted out like we spoke, like I was speaking about with insurance and daycare. Overall, it’s your income that’s used to calculate the child support along with the overnights that you’ll have with the child in order to come up with a number that the Florida Legislature deems is necessary or required to care for your child.
