How will a Florida DUI conviction affect me other than the criminal penalties and the license loss?

A DUI conviction is actually a conviction in and of itself. That means that you now have a criminal record. That is a record that can never be expunged or sealed. Any previous or subsequent offenses that you may have had can never be expunged or sealed. Therefore, you will now have a permanent criminal record. DUI is also a cumulative crime, meaning that if you picked up a DUI when you were 21, you picked up another DUI when you were 30, and a third DUI when you’re 60, it still counts as a third DUI for purposes of prosecution and can be considered a felony.
